Void never tried to take over the dream world. He never had any evil intentions to what he was doing. Lumina made Sonic and his friends think Void was a bad guy just because he accidentally shattered the Precious Stone, so Void became that bad guy Sonic and his friends envisioned. (He is whatever you want him to be.) So really he's not even a bad guy, he's best described as a confused child.
He represents emptiness while Lumina represents the opposite and together the two cancel each other out and make the ruler of the dream world, Illumina, so really they are the same person.
The main reason Void and Cosmo look so alike is because the same person who designed Void designed Cosmo and the Seedrians.
I love how you drew Void though, he looks so swift and capable. It makes me think this is an older him. It's weird how the outfit seems to fit him so well though. I really like it. That backness on the back parts of him and his cape is just wonderful too, a great effect. Lovely!
I'm sorry for the Void lesson, if you didn't want to hear it or anything, sorry. I sometimes get a bit hyped when it comes to him.
