I actually drew this out a while ago, back when Issue # 226 first came out, which was awsomely drawn out by Spaz and Yardley and colored by Matt Herms, through it took me forever to finally draw the pic.
I feel mighty proud as to how this came out, especially the lava pit. Pretty much I really had to observe the panels in 226 for maximum processing on how the lava should be done. I used the Sonic 2 Starpost as I couldn't find an image of the Sonic 1 Starpost. Batbrains useually have ears but I done what I saw in 226 and drew them without ears. As for the characters, they all came out fine, I tried to immitate Spaz style for all except for Sally, which I drawn with modern size hands and feet. I personally never like the whole freakishly small hands and feet thing on Classic era Sal, especially when you look at classic Amy and she has normal Sonic size hands, so I simply gave Sal normal/Modern sized hands. the sky took awile with the clouds in particular. Also added the UFO's which I found was an awsome nod to the prototype version of Sonic 1.
I was originally going to add Buzzbombers and more ruins but I decided not to do anymore.
This actually makes Marble Zone look more appealing to me, and it was one of my least favorite levels in Sonic 1. Good job for making that change of opinion happen in me!
I absolutely love this so much! Looking at all the different things in this, I would have taken forever too! You have done so amazingly! The characters and the robots are so cool and terrific! I love the background with the lava, the ruins, the cathedral, the grass, the trees, the mountains, the sky with the sun and the clouds, the UFOs and the starpost! Love the shadings, highlights and the tiny details, as always! I applaud to you!
Hmm... this one might be a little twisted.. like Sonic and Sally's position on the hill... They way they are posed is fine but the angle on the hill is a little off. And then the shape and angle of the rest. Hills, buildings and the lava pool with it's pillars up front.
I guess it just feels a TINY bit off. But otherwise it's very satisfying to look at.
